CHECK CAMP AVAILABILITY

SCHOOL FACTS

Showers

We use a mobile shower unit called Maui Showers (the cost of the shower is covered in the registration fee).  The trailer unit has 11 individual showers so there is plenty of privacy. You get tokens that you place into the token box to start your shower water.  The water will be on for 6 minutes.  Each shower stall is air conditioned and is cleaned between each user.  There may not be showers available on Sunday, and there are no showers in the school.

Program Area

Our program area is the gym of Anderson Elementary School.  It is air conditioned.  We use a mix of bleachers and chairs.

Sleeping Arrangements

Anderson Elementary has two hallways that branch off of the central program area.  One is for Girls and one is for Boys and for staff.  There are 15 to 20 people assigned to each classroom.  Most of the sleeping areas have carpet.  All of the sleeping areas are air conditioned.

Additional Information

You may think an elementary school is too small for this size of group, but on the contrary, the size of the school is perfect for keeping the groups close enough to mingle and manage.

WORKSITE INFORMATION

Anderson, IN is a city of about 60,000 people. Anderson is located 45 minutes northeast of Indianapolis, pretty much in the center of the state. Its heyday was in the 70's when  General Motors employed about 20,000 workers. Today, the city is severely depressed by the loss of factory and engineering jobs. This city could benefit greatly from a week of  concentrated neighborhood revitalization by energetic teens.

We help mainly the elderly in Anderson.  All have been extremely grateful.  There are relatively few Catholics in Anderson, and our work has been an eye-opener for many who have never associated with Catholics before.  They are always impressed by our teens.

Typically, there are 4 day care projects.  However, each one of those will also include some clean up/fix up work along with working with children. There are also 4 social service centers we work at. They include 2 food banks, a homeless shelter, and a veteran’s shelter.

This school is within walking distance of several of our projects, and no one drives more than 20 minutes.
