CAMP AVAILABILITY
SCHOOL FACTS
Showers
We do have showers on site. The girls showered in the field
house which is a bit of a walk from the school, but they are
indoors and have both hot and cold water. Boys showered
outside last year, and depending on the progress of
construction on the school gymnasium, this will most likely be
the case again this summer.
Program Area
Program area will most likely be in the gym, which is under
some construction. It is not air conditioned, but our plan is
to get some temporary units for the week.
Sleeping Arrangements
Campers sleep in classrooms that do have air conditioning
units.
WORKSITE INFORMATION
|
The community in Plaquemine was very supportive of our work
last year. Many local businesses made donations of money and
materials for our work, and other community members
supported camp staff by cooking lunch for them. Plaquemine
is a small community with a high rate of poverty for its
size. All of our worksites last year were work projects at
the homes of elderly members of the community. We worked
with some local agencies to locate members of the community
in need of help, but we did not work at the agencies
themselves. August in Louisiana will be very hot and humid,
and all of the work will be outside or in homes that are
most likely not air conditioned, so we will do our best to
make sure that all program areas and sleeping areas are. |
