WORKSITE INFORMATION

Jackson is the capital city of
Mississippi and is known for its hospitality to visitors and
fine Southern cooking. Many areas of Mississippi are very rural
as cotton farming was the main industry for decades. These rural
areas, as well as the inner city, are stricken with poverty,
illness, and teen pregnancy. In 2005 Hurricane Katrina hit the
coast, which is about 3 hours from Jackson. Many of these
victims relocated to the Jackson area and are still in a state
of recovery. Due to the devastation on our coast, many of our
local charities have suffered because resources have been spread
thinly. Your time and service here will be greatly appreciated
by the residents of Jackson. Most of the projects are minor home
repair, but there are a couple of projects assisting kids in a
summer program and some serving social service centers. |
