SCHOOL FACTS

Showers

Showers are on site.  The boys shower is communal and the Girls have several communal and two enclosed showers.

Program Area

Our program is in the Auditorium that seats about 600 people but it is not Air Conditioned.  There is also a Gym for fun activities.

Sleeping Arrangements

Campers sleep in the 2nd and 3rd floor classrooms and their is no AC but the school is close to Lake Michigan and the breeze makes sleeping comfortable unless there is a heat wave.

Additional Information

The school is in the St. Francis section of Milwaukee, a beautiful suburb. The campus connects with the Cousins Center which is the home and offices of the Archbishops.
Groups could walk through the campus and get to Lake Michigan and a beautiful park. Campers of course are not allowed to go further than the campus.

WORKSITE INFORMATION

In a city known for its cheese, frozen custard, Marquette University, Miller Brewing Company, Harley Davidson and The Milwaukee Brewers there is much work to be done.  The Milwaukee Workcamp is an inner city camp.  Our work concentrates in two major areas; helping families who have acquired a home through the Dominican Center for Woman or A.C.T.S.  attain repairs, and helping the Senior population of Milwaukee through the Milwaukee Center for Independence and the Interfaith Senior Center.  Though the outskirts of Milwaukee are beautiful there is much work to be done with those less fortunate.  One group spends a week immersed in the life of the homeless of Milwaukee helping Repairers of the Breach, and outreach ministry to the homeless.

Most of our work is helping inner city people upgrade and renovate their homes.  Are work sites are varied in that one might be painting the inside or outside of a house while another might be building a fence for the backyard of a house.  We also work with Senior Citizens who are unable to take care of their lawns and property, they are not so much poor as on a fixed income and elderly.  the organization we work with has a goal to allow people to stay in their home as long as possible.

There are a few but limited amount of day cares and social centers that we work with.
