WORKSITE INFORMATION

In 1691 a group of Spanish explorers
came upon a river on the feast day of St. Anthony they named the
river and the city San Antonio (SA), nicknames: “Alamo City; River
City; Mission City.” The River-Walk runs right through the heart
of our city with the best Mexican food, and live entertainment.
SA has 5 Spanish Missions including the Alamo. It is the proud
home of the 3 time NBA Champions “SPURS”. In the midst of
all these wonderful events we have a neighborhood rich with
culture, but has an average income of $9,000.00 per household a
year. Catholic Heart Workcamp in partnership with St. Mark the
Evangelist Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Lake University, San
Antonio Alternative Housing, are restoring this neighborhood, one
home at a time, and one block at a time.
Most of the work
is painting and fixing the outside of homes, the inside work is
mostly for those who cannot physically work outside. We also put
on a vacation bible school for the neighborhood

Mission San Francisco de la
Espada
In 1731, after their retreat
from East Texas, the founders of San Francisco de los
Tejas moved the mission to the San Antonio River and
renamed it San Francisco de la Espada. Espada appears as
remote today as it did in the mid 1700s.
