Team Captain/Stage Manager/Floater

 Responsibilities with the camp…

FLOATER…

  • Assume responsibility to help and fill in wherever needed…kitchen, tool-room, taking pictures, merchandise, video taping, unpack and unload budget, shop at Sam’s, Home Depot and of course empty trash, etc. etc. etc. 

STAGE MANAGER…

  • Please see that back stage stays clean and organized (trash, CC games etc).

  • Make sure everything is set up for morning program…share/prayer sheets, work reports, first-aid kits, brochures, etc. 

  • Make sure things are ready for evening program…Carpenter Commandos games, props and microphones for skits, intro to videos and all other papers needed for program.

  • Make sure program area is cleaned every evening.

 

TEAM CAPTAIN…

  • Responsible for check writing, handling of camp money and credit card.  Receipts are needed for all reimbursements.

  • Save & organize receipts.  There will be a file box available for this.

  • Organize the unpacking and packing of the u-haul.
  • Make sure someone is designated to clean up the van and U-haul.
  • Assist the manager in the office when needed
  • Help manager with registration.
  • Oversee adult meetings with Manager and Director.
  • Call and gather team for morning/evening staff meetings.
  • Make sure lights are turned off and doors are locked each night.
  • Be a role model for other staff members portraying what it means to keep working in spite of being tired.
  • Make sure the Liturgy is being taken care of and set up.
  • We ask only one person to go out and pick up breakfast and lunch on Sunday for the rest of the team.  Please make arrangements for one person to collect money and take orders from each staff person.  There is a lot of running around, setting up and last minute details, which need to be finished.  When the whole team departs, it leaves a heavy load on those left behind. 
  • Make arrangements for the staff to sit down with the manager in each city at the start of the camp.  Have the team introduce themselves to the manager and vice versa.   Speak with the manager and find out when the best time would be to sit down for introductions.  This will help with the lines of communication with the manager and the team as well as assist in making the manager more comfortable and not feel “left out”. 
  • If you see any trash, please pick it up.
  • Go to worksites to take pictures when needed.
  • Trouble shoot with participating adults that are grumbling or complaining.
  • Run errands when needed.
  • Be aware of potential problems before they arrive.
  • Be an example of someone that "goes the extra mile".
  • Make sure the spirit of prayer is present.

Responsibilities with staff………

  • Responsible for check, handling of camp money and credit card on the road to pay for hotel & gas.  Save & organize receipts.  There will be a file box available for this.            
  • Oversee staff and make sure all tasks are being done.
  • Facilitate sleep in days with staff members. Staff members will get a day to sleep in every other week until noon.  This time is meant for sleep and prayer not an opportunity to go to worksites or to the mall.  If a vehicle is available, person can go to store for personal items.
  • Clarify who is doing “what” and “when” with team. Confirm roles and responsibilities.
  • Affirm and recognize team members for their work.
  • Address staff member that may be exhibiting low job performance & communicate expectations. 
  • Help with problems or tension between staff members.
  • Give a break to staff members when it seems he/she is tired.
  • Be a buffer, go-between and liaison between Manager and Director.  If a problem arises with staff, team leader will step in and try to resolve issue. 
  • Speak with staff person when problem of job performance arises.  Approach person in delicate manner and communicate concerns regarding their behavior, effort or attitude as a staff member.  
  • If a concern is brought up from a staff member regarding the Camp Manager, deal with it appropriately.  The team leader should handle the staff concerns and if needed bring it to attention of the Camp Manager and Director
  • Help decide with the director to change roles of team members if work is not getting done right, too slow, or not at all.
  • You are one of the team members and yet have a separate role. Sometimes you may have to confront or correct another team member and step out of your friendship role with the person. You may have to risk having tension in the relationship.                      
  • Administering discipline when needed and deal with conflict and challenges.     
  • Keep the big picture in mind.
  • Make sure team members feel part of team and clicks are not formed.
  • Find solutions to problems.  Help facilitate others to engage in brainstorming.
  • Build accountability with team members.
  • Celebrate differences in team members in order for the team to grow.
  • Deal with unmet expectations or frustrations of staff.
  • Deal with interpersonal team differences, conflict and "power plays".
  • Improve team skills.  People are not born knowing how to perform well in a team. Observe team skills that member's naturally posses and those that they lack.
